Marple Hall School Fundraiser 2019 /20

Maia and Dylan attend Marple Hall Secondary School (in Stockport U.K). Kamla Foundation was selected by the school, as their charity of choice for the academic year 2019/20. The school leadership team (consisting of the Deputy Head, Senior Teachers, Head Boy, Girl and Year Prefects) were asked to drive the fundraiser programme. Maia and Dylan were extended an invitation to join the group, to help shape its activities and raise the profile of the Foundation during the course of the year.

Maia and Dylan demonstrated a variety of skills during the course of the year, from deliberations at the Leadership Group to public speaking, developing flyers and promotional materials to leading and developing discussions on fund raising ideas

Throughout the first term, Maia and Dylan spoke to hundreds of staff and pupils at a variety of assemblies across all year groups, highlighting the work and impact of the Foundation.

The Leadership Team staged many fun and novel fundraising events to gain wider interest from the school community. One such event was the Cycling Challenge – students cycling the length of India from the North to the south, some 2,000 miles in four days. For this Fundraiser, each Class selected five students to participate and those chosen had to pledge to raise at least £10 from sponsorship. Electric bikes were set up in the school gym and students (and staff) took turns to cycle as many miles as possible in time slots of 25 minutes. Everyone gave a concerted effort, from the cyclists, time keepers, the counters to those just turning up to support. This event alone raised over £2,800…what a great team effort!

Successful fundraisers ensued and together the staff and students were creating a strong momentum – completing a number of monthly challenges and alas as we all know….tragically the global pandemic struck! All fundraising ceased in March of this year. However, the School still managed to raise the fantastic sum of over £8,000 (including gift aid).

A massive thanks to the Marple Hall School community.
