Urmila’s Story – 2012
Urmila Patel is a pupil, at St James Independent School in Stockport. A school notable not only for its teaching of Sanskrit but also Philosophy, which helps the children to think for themselves and consider how they may best live their lives.
“Mila” (as she’s more commonly known), is an inspirational 9 year old who wanted to learn and develop basic business skills. To this effect, she started to make friendship bands. With help from her parents, Mila combined her business acumen and chose to donate all proceeds from the sale of the friendship bands to the Foundation. At the same time the Foundation entered into a partnership with the Safe Water Trust, to supply aqua filters to the neediest in India.
Aqua filters makes biologically contaminated water from wells, rivers and lakes safe to drink at the point of use. An Aqua filter costs £30 and to date Mila has raised the fantastic sum of over £600.
