manchester great run for Kam

Greater Manchester 10K Run – May 2012

I decided to take part in my first charity run for the Foundation and enrolled on the Bupa Great Manchester 10k Run. My training for the run started in August 2011, when I joined Motiv8 boot camp, lots of stamina training and relays, it was tough but eventually after lots of aching and sweating I actually started to enjoy the workouts and still do.

On the day of the race I was very nervous but also very excited about the challenge. The weather for the run was perfect, cool and cloudy. I was in the ‘Blue Wave’ of runners and started to warm up with the other 40 thousand runners around 11am for the 11.20am start. The run started and it was nice to see family and friends cheering me on as I started and finished the race, my husband Dave ran with me, so he kept me going at a steady pace. I did not stop once as I may never have started again!

The final kilometre was the toughest and got quite busy, but the jelly babies they were giving out, went down well.I was very nervous before and it was quite an emotional day, but I thoroughly enjoyed the race. I finished it in 1 hour 4mins, which was brilliant.I am really proud that I took part and raised well over £200 for a great cause.
